Over the years of being in this business I found out the hard way that not every job is a job I needed to take on and wanted to take on. Its ok to turn down jobs as customers turn us down all the time. Weather its a cost issue and your just not going to hit your target number or if its just a personality difference. I remember the first time I had a customer go from 0 to 100 on my team and I, I thought it was for nothing. I ended up going to court and fighting the situation that he accused my guys of. When it was very small things that I could have easily taken care of but it was the way he approached the situation. This situation took about 6 months to clear up and a few thousand to fight, at the end of it I found out the man was dying of cancer and had months to live and was just trying to make sure his wife was going to be ok when he was gone. As soon as I found this out I hugged him, apologized and did what he asked even though it was things I wasn’t responsible for… we never know what is going on in our customers world nor do they know what we are going through. We all have our problems in life weather its a customer that wont pay, an employee who isn’t doing what they need, or having an illness that has an expiration date that has been given to you. My point is we all need to do a little better in trying to understand our customers / contractors side before jumping to conclusions, myself included.
